Repair Program Service Options

This program offers two services to help homeowners live safely and comfortably.

Aging in Place

For seniors (62+) choosing to stay in their homes instead of moving to assisted living. Modifications include:

​Brush with Kindness

For families needing exterior updates or modifications for disabled household members. 
Services include:

• Mobility/Disability Home Modifications
• Bathroom/Kitchen Modifications
• Porch Renovations for Safe Entry/Exit
• Additional Home Safety Improvements

• Wheelchair Ramp
• Exterior Painting 
• Window Replacement
• Other Necessary Safety Improvements

Sweat Equity

Homeowners MUST be present during all repair work performed by Red River Valley Habitat for Humanity and assist as needed, unless physically unable.

Application Criteria

• Applicant must own home and use it as their primary residence (not an investment or seasonal property). 
• Taxes, Insurance, and Mortgage payments (if applicable) must be current.
• Homeowner must have  homeowner's insurance , verified through the most recent mortgage statement.
• If taxes and insurance are not in escrow, proof of payment is required.
• The property must be free of mechanics liens. 

Loan Repayment

Homeowners must fully repay out-of-pocket repair costs - including materials and professional labor - through an interest-free loan within 24 months after work is completed. Early repayment has no penalty.​

Limit of Work

The program focuses on minor exterior and interior repairs, with an annual limit of $5,000, though more may be available with additional funding.

Services NOT covered:

• Critical home repair 
• Weatherization
• Foundation or structural work
• Significant plumbing, electrical or heating repairs
• LIHEAP related services
• Roofing
• Garages, sheds and unnecessary additions
• Cosmetic updates
